Presumably it changes the tone at least. I mean, for a start, everyone’s probably suddenly going to be wearing more clothes.
‘The moral character of an orgy’.
It’s a hard thing to define. I mean, nothing wrong with an orgy per se, though I’m sure some would say it started off with a slightly odd moral character. I guess it depends on the morals (and the mortals) involved. Respectful, gentle and loving orgies are totally viable. People can be sensitive and positive with each other (or they can take the opportunity of mass nudity and lowered inhibitions to take advantage and be dicks, which would be bad).
I actually kind of suspect that most orgies, or at least, most that I can imagine, are actually run by people with a big eye for respect, consent and boundaries. In my mind we’re talking people who probably actually think about sexuality in a more open and less destructive way than many people. I’m possibly being optimistic, but it strikes me that to prepare yourself to venture into that sort of thing you’ve probably got to spend a lot of time thinking about the social norms of sex and sexuality (many of which are inherently sexist and violent, to some extent) and learn some respectful boundaries.
But then, maybe I’m being absurd. Possibly it’s just the only people I know who might orgy are people who are into queer politics and feminism and so are really clued up.
So I seem to think the moral character of an orgy is fairly high to start with. What does a nazi uniform do to that?
I mean, for a start it makes me uncomfortable, but I was probably fairly uncomfortable in the first place.
I think the real issue comes down to intention. Why would everybody put on the uniforms? If they just suddenly appeared to fulfil a hypothetical situation then there is no change. If someone turns around and says ‘you know what would be hot right now? If we were all nazis!’ Well. I wouldn’t really like that someone much. You’re pulling on the violent symbolism of history and try and add excitement to the sex. It’s a weird kind of excitement that I’d want to question and criticise if it was bought up. It’s something to be challenged.
But if everyone consented then could it really be so bad? It’s just clothes, and realistically, they are probably all going to come off again soon.
Realistically, and more from social paranoia than from morality, I probably wouldn’t be in an orgy in the first place. But if I was there I wouldn’t stick around for the nazification. I’d challenge the suggestion and raise discomfort. If there’s one thing I don’t want to think about during sex its brutal, violent, mass-murdering totalitarian regimes.
Call me old fashioned.
But I don’t think it’s necessarily immoral. Just unpleasant. And quite likely to come from a disturbing/disturbed place.
And that very well may not be okay.
